Wim was born in 1974, grew up in Amsterdam and started playing saxophone when he was 9 years old. He studied under Wim van Sante and Peter Guidi at the Amsterdam Muziekschool. He continued his studies at the Amsterdam Conservatoire where he developed himself as a virtuoso swinging saxophonist on the Amsterdam Jazz scene.
